Marlborough is a small town situated approximately 750 kilometres north of Brisbane. Located on the Capricorn coast Marlborough is now predominately used as a service centre to the surrounding cattle grazers. The town was initially bypassed by the train line and more recently by the Bruce Highway. There is a historical museum in the town, which was set up by the late Martin Hennessy, and the town also has a historical pub which tourists may find interesting. There is accommodation in the town in the form of a caravan park and a couple of hotel/motels. The weather is extremely hot all year around with temperatures in winter reaching 32 degrees and 44 is not uncommon in summer.
